Burnham-On-Sea area braced for high winds from Storm Aileen

-

Weather forecasters are warning that the Burnham-On-Sea area will be hit by strong winds this evening (Tuesday) and during the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning as Storm Aileen brings gusts of up to 60mph to the Burnham area from 8pm, along with rain that will be heavy at times.

“Storm Aileen is expected to bring very strong winds with gusts of 50-60 mph on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning,” says a spokesman.

“Longer journey times by road, rail and air are likely, with restrictions on roads and bridges.”

“There is also a chance of power cuts, and damage to trees and perhaps buildings. Along windward-facing coasts, some wave overtopping is possible.”

Western Power Distrubution has put extra operational and engineering staff on standby to respond to any disruption to supplies.

Please send us your photos of any storm damage caused by the high winds, but do not put yourself in any danger to take photos.
