£15,000 road surveying equipment stolen from Highbridge building site

Thieves have stolen thousands of pounds of roadside surveying equipment in thefts fromn building sites across the area, including Highbridge.

Three items – each worth in excess of £15,000 – used to carry out specialist survey work have been taken between 24th October and 1st November.

The three items – two Leica TS16 and a Leica LC60 surveying units – were all tripod-mounted.

On 24th October between 3-3.29pm a vehicle pulled up on a building site near junction 23 of the M5. The passengers got out of the car and took a tripod containing surveying equipment.

The following day a car pulled on to a building site in the Isleport Lane area of Highbridge between 9-9.15am, stopping near to tripod-mounted equipment. A passenger in the car got out and put equipment in the car and drove away. It went towards junction 22 of the M5.

On November 1st, a similar incident occurred between 1-1.50pm at another building site on Bath Road, Bridgwater. A car drove onto the site and the occupants were challenged by the workforce. Another tripod with surveying equipment was taken.

“We would also like to hear from anyone else who may have had similar equipment taken,” said a Police spokesman.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who has information about the above incidents or has been offered the specialist equipment.”

“Finally we would urge local construction companies and staff to be aware of these recent incidents and to ensure that they safeguard their equipment and do not leave it unsupervised.”
