people rescued from beach mud by Burnham-On-Sea hovercraft
youngsters were rescued by Coastguards and Burnham-On-Sea's rescue
hovercraft last night (Wednesday) after they got into difficulty
in deep mud next to Brean Down.

and BARB Search & Rescue's hovercrafts, at Uphill shortly after
three teenagers had waded out across the mud a mile from the shore
to try and reach the sea, but with a fast incoming tide they were
putting themselves in danger.
beachwarden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "They were
a long distance from the beach at Uphill and were struggling in
a dangerous area of mud next to Brean Down."

flew out with two Weston Coastguards to rescue them and bring them
back to safety."

before being released and given safety advice.
Coastguard Station Officer Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Given
the state of the incoming tide, the three were putting themselves
in a lot of potential danger. This was a good multi-agency incident,
and it was very useful to have the beach warden on Brean Down watching
from a high vantage."

Operations Manager Mike Lowe added: "This was the third call-out
of the day for BARB's volunteers, after two call-outs in the night,
and it highlights their immense dedication, for which I am extremely
incidents showed great multi-agency working between all the rescue
services, with good training being put into practice."
the crews were leaving, a separate group of three mud walkers was
spotted far out from the shore beyond the Grand Pier. The hovercraft
was launched again to check on them before being stood down when
their safety was confirmed.
