New ‘Track and Chat’ toddler classes launch in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

A brand new type of toddler class has been launched in the Burnham-On-Sea area this autumn.

‘Track and Chat’ has been set up and designed by Katie Grant, a local mother and primary school teacher with over ten years of teaching experience.

The classes provide train-centred imaginative play sessions that are designed to promote early speaking and listening skills while encouraging and supporting parent/child interactions. Each week has a different theme.

Katie told Burnham-on-Sea.com: “I love seeing the children animated and chatty during our guided time and watching the children and their parents enjoy some quality interaction time.”

“As a teacher and a mother, I wanted to support children and parents develop their pre-literacy skills.”

“Speaking and listening skills such as listening, expressive language, eye contact, responding and speaking in sentences are key to developing further in all areas of learning.”

“We cover these skills through stories, rhymes, songs and playing with our massive train track.”

She added that sessions are fast-paced, fun for all and suitable for all young children.

“They are aimed at 2-4 year olds, from those with limited communication skills to mini chatterboxes,” she says.

“We currently run on a Thursday afternoon in Brent Knoll from 1pm until 2pm and are planning on running extra classes in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge in the New Year.”

“We will be running a ‘Grandparents special’ soon as we understand that more and more grandparents are providing child care for working families.”
