Brean farmer's tractor destroyed by fire, weeks after big barn blaze

A farmer has spoken of his shock at this dramatic fire which completely destroyed a tractor near Burnham-On-Sea on Monday (September 25th) — just weeks after he suffered a huge barn blaze.

Two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea were called to a field in Red Road, Berrow at 9.15am on Monday, where the vehicle was engulfed in flames, as pictured here.

"Crews used a compressed air foam jet and two breathing apparatus to extinguish it, but the fire had destroyed it."

Farmer Richard Bigwood, who owns the vehicle, told "My brother was using it to cut grass when smoke suddenly started pouring out from under the hood and it quickly went up in flames."

"The fire spread to the whole tractor and despite the quick response of the fire crews, sadly it's a complete write-off, but at least no-one's hurt."

"We think it was caused by an electrical fault - it was an old tractor."

He added: "I have had a very unlucky year after suffering a big fire in Brean that destroyed a barn and winter feed during August. Now this. I'm starting to know the fire crew on first-name terms."

The summer barn blaze was assessed to have been caused by internal combustion, as we reported here.
