Burnham-On-Sea U3A founder thanked with gift in group's 25th year

The founder of one of Burnham-On-Sea's biggest and longest-running community groups - which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year - has been formally thanked this week.

Burnham-On-Sea's University of The Third Age (U3A) is celebrating its silver anniversary throughout 2017 and its President and founder, Ken Hindle, received a special 'thank you' from members.

Ken was presented with an engraved crystal bowl as token of the group's thanks for his work over the years, as pictured.

"It was a lovely surprise and a great honour to be presented with this bowl, which I will treasure," he told

The group's Chairman, Paul Hambleton, presented the award during a celebration lunch.

The U3A in Burnham-On-Sea has over 560 members, with 42 separate groups offering a wide range of activities from table tennis and Scrabble to walking and craft-making.

A years of events has been held to mark the 25th anniversary. A tree was planted in Burnham-On-Sea's Manor Gardens last week.

A special congratulatory message on behalf of HM The Queen, written by a Lady-In-Waiting at Sandringham, was received by the group earlier this year, as we featured here.

The next event will be a history exhibition on November 3rd at Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre from 10am-12.30pm.
