Summer influx of wildlife prompts appeal for Burnham volunteers

A summer influx of animals has prompted Secret World Wildlife Rescue to issue an appeal for more volunteers this week.

"This summer has been extremely busy and numbers are much higher than in previous years," said Pauline Kidner, the founder of the charity that is based in East Huntspill.

"We are looking desperately for volunteers to help with the animals, in reception, maintenance and with our functions."

"Summer is always a difficult time for us with students finishing their courses, people on holiday themselves and grand-parents caring for children during the school breaks."

"Come and join our team and get close to wildlife that you probably never ever see and experience the chance to help wildlife."

She added that support, advice and training will be given if required.

Secret World is also looking to find drivers in the Bristol area to bring wildlife casualties to them at the end of each day.

Several vets in the Bristol area now hold animals until they can be collected and finding people to drive to Bristol is not easy, says the charity, which is based in East Huntspill.

"If you work in Bristol, there may be a veterinary practice near your workplace and if so perhaps, on occasions, you would be prepared to collect already contained casualties and bring them back to Secret World."
