-

Emergency services descended on Burnham-On-Sea town centre today (Tuesday) following a two-car crash in which one vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

Crews were called to Adam Street just after 3.30pm where a vehicle was left damaged and a man inside was left shaken.

Police spokesman Craig Evry told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A vehicle failed to stop for police in Burnham-On-Sea at just after 3.30pm.”

“The National Police Aircraft Service was involved in the operation to locate this vehicle.”

“A short time later, this vehicle was in collision with a second car, a Kia, in Adam Street,” pictured here.

“An elderly man driving the Kia was treated at the scene by medics. His injuries are not believed to be serious.”

“Efforts are continuing to trace the vehicle which failed to stop.”

A fire service spokesman added: “Crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater were mobilised to a report passed to fire control of a Road Traffic Collision with persons trapped inside the vehicle,” confirmed a fire service spokesman.

“Upon arrival, crews found a two-vehicle collision, with one vehicle failing to stop at the scene. Crews assisted the ambulance and Police in stabilising the vehicle and attending to the casualty at the scene.”

Rebecca Weale, a spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, added: “SWASFT were called at 3.42pm to a road traffic collision, on Adam Street – a male patient was treated at the scene by paramedics.”

Multiple witnesses on social media said they’d seen the police helicopter hovering over Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea following the incident.

Several say they saw a vehicle being driven at high speed along Burnham High Street the wrong way shortly before the collision.
