Proposals for a new development of flats in Highbridge town centre, in place of office space, have been given the go ahead by Sedgemoor District Council.

The council plans to build new ‘Social Rented Housing’ at the rear of Alpha House in Market Street, pictured here.

The current office building at the back of the property will be demolished to make way for the new development of five one-bedroom flats.

“The scheme covers a change of use from offices, including the erection of a single storey extension on the site of an existing building to be demolished,” says the council.

The council adds that Alpha House is currently a building of mixed use, comprising residential and office space. The area to be converted has been used as office use and is unoccupied.

Highbridge Library, which is also located in Alpha House, is not affected by the changes.

The plans were submitted in November, as we reported here.
