Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean beaches have been given an Arctic appearance this week as freezing cold weather has left a long line of ice along the high tideline.

The unusual sight comes as the Burnham-On-Sea area feels the effects of the so-called the ‘Beast from the East’ with sub-zero temperatures.

The Burnham-On-Sea area will see temperatures of -6C overnight, although the significant wind chill will make it feel even colder.

The Met Office is also warning that the Burnham-On-Sea area could see snowfall this week, with flurries forecast over the next couple of days and heavier snowfall a possibility on Thursday and Friday.

A Met Office spokesman said: “It will be extremely cold with a significant wind chill for most.”

“Frequent snow showers Wednesday, with some brighter spells, and probably a spell of prolonged and disruptive snow arriving Thursday night into Friday.”
