Berrow beach road remains shut after damage from Storm Eleanor

-

Berrow beach’s access road remained closed on Monday after storms damaged it last week.

Sand and concrete were washed away from around the road’s surface, leaving a sharp drop at the end that could damage vehicles. Large amounts of rubbish were also washed up, as pictured here.

Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees the beach car park, shut the road last week and says contractors are due to carry out repairs shortly with a view to getting it quickly re-opened.

“Some of the concrete and sand surrounding the roadway was washed away, leaving deep, sharp edges where vehicles could damage their tyres or their sumps,” a council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

It comes after 70mph winds coincided with high tides, whipping up big waves and the storm caused damage in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow.
