Burnham-On-Sea tourist information centre celebrates its 7th birthday

-

The team who run Burnham-On-Sea’s tourist information centre celebrated the facility’s seventh birthday on Saturday (14th April).

The centre was opened by community group Burnham Information And Rescue Support (BIARS) on April 14th, 2011 by Glastonbury Festival’s Michael Eavis, as we reported here.

Since then, the team of volunteers who run the facilities have helped almost 500,000 visitors at a rate of around 70,000 people a year.

Burnham’s MP James Heappey joined Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor and Mayoress, Bill and Frances Hancock, as special guests at Saturday’s function to mark the milestone.

Speeches from BIARS Chairman Tom Ashton, Visit Somerset President Bob Nicholson and Mr Heappey praised the volunteers for their work over the years. A celebratory cake was cut amid cheers from the volunteers and guests.
