Police have apppealed for witnesses after a woman was killed in Highbridge early on Saturday morning (January 20th) when she was hit by a car which failed to stop.

Police were called to Burnham Road, Highbridge at around 2.20am where they found the woman, who was believed to be in her 30s.

The driver has since been arrested and remains in custody, however Police are keen to hear from any witnesses to the incident and asked anyone with information to come forward.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to reports of a fail-to-stop incident in Burnham Road, Highbridge at about 2.20am.”

“A woman believed to be in her 30s was fatally injured after she was in a collision with a car which failed to stop.”

“Shortly afterwards the driver was arrested and he remains in custody.”

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries.”

“Anyone able to help is asked to call us on 101, quoting reference 5218014348.”

Crimes-of-scene officers were at the junction throughout Saturday morning as their investigation into what happened began.
