Family of man who died on Brean beach thank crews for helping him

The family of a man who died on Brean beach while trying to rescue a car stuck in mud has thanked rescuers for trying to save his life.

Bernard John Kent, right, suffered a heart attack during the recovery of a stranded Mercedes hire car on the beach next to Brean Down, as reported here.

An air ambulance also flew in to help the man, and several Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards, paramedics, first aiders and a nurse attempted to revive him by giving him CPR.

Tina Louise Lay, his partner, has contacted this week to thank those who were involved in the incident.

She said: "I would like to thank everyone for their assistance that day, especially the Coastguards and the emergency services for all their efforts in trying to save my partner."

"They exceed expectations regardless of how small the situation is, and I would like to publicly thank them for the help and support they gave to my partner Bernard John Kent who sadly passed away."

"They gave me support and help, and words cannot express how grateful I am for them being there on the day."

"I was given support and understanding. They explained everything that they had tried to do for my partner which helped with my shock and grief. Words cannot explain how grateful I am."

Crews at the scene said their thoughts continue to with the family and all concerned.
