Shoe shop Clarks is to close its store in Burnham-On-Sea town centre.

The shop in Burnham’s High Street will shut down this Spring, the company confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

The company says it has carried out a review of the long-running shop in Burnham and has decided not to renew its lease.

Holly Bibby, a spokeswoman for Clarks, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “Clarks continually reviews all of its stores to ensure that they are the right size and located in the right areas in order to provide the best possible offering and environment on the high street to its customers.”

“As a result, we have decided not to continue the lease on our store in Burnham-On-Sea and the store will be closing.”

John Edwards of Burnham’s Chamber of Trade gave his reaction to Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We are very disappointed to hear this news, which is a loss to our town centre – no-one wants to see a big name like Clarks going,” he said.

“It should be noted, though, that Burnham’s town centre continues to have a great range of shops. Several sell shoes, including Shoe Zone, Burnham Shopping Centre, Peacocks and New Look.”
