Crane-out of yachts in Burnham-On-Sea marks end of sailing season

-

Two huge cranes towered over the River Brue in Burnham-On-Sea to hoist yachts out of the water during the annual autumn ‘crane-out’.

Members of Burnham Sailing Club took advantage of a high tide and calm weather on Friday to proceed with the operation to move vessels out of the River Brue and into the club’s boat yard.

The spectacle happens each autumn and marks the end of Burnham’s summer sailing season, when boats are moved into safe storage in the club’s boat yard over the winter.

A club spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was an early start of 6am as high water was at 9am. Despite some nervous faces, everything went to plan and all was wrapped up by 11am.”
