MP praises town dementia-friendly group on 1st year
MP and Mayor were among those celebrating a Dementia-friendly group's
'Third Thursday' group meets every third Thursday of the month at
2.30pm in Burnham's St Andrews Church where well-loved hymns
are sung followed by prayers and a shared tea of sandwiches and
last summer, the group has proved very popular with all who attend.
help mark the milestone, the Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, Cllr
Bill Hancock, read a lesson at the celebration last week, and MP
James Heappey led The Lords Prayer.
Heappey said: "Third Thursday is a wonderful group coming together
to support people in our community living with dementia. I enjoyed
a really uplifting service and wish them a very happy first birthday."
Mayor added: "What the Third Thursday team is doing is brilliant,
seeing everyone so happy. I was surprised to see so many there.
Long may it continue to grow, I congratulate the volunteers."
one of attendees, said: "I like to come to the service and
enjoy the cake." Another added: "It is most enjoyable.
We are really blessed by it, my husband looks forward to coming
and loves all the hymns. There is a lot of input from the volunteers
who all work very hard and it is appreciated."
