Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were called out late on Wednesday evening (July 25th) to tackle a blaze at a Highbridge home.

Crews were called to Elder Close in Highbridge at 10.54pm to reports of a fire in a bedroom in a house.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea were sent following a call from the occupant of a property reporting a fire in one of their bedrooms.”

“At the time of the call all persons had safely evacuated the property, awaiting our arrival.”

“Both crews arrived on the scene within minutes. On arrival of the first crew, they confirmed smoke and flames were issuing and set to work entering the property to locate the fire, later confirmed to be in the first floor bedroom of the semi-detached owner occupied house.”

“At 11.16pm, crews advised the fire was believed to have been extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers and a hose reel jet.”

“However, further checks for hotspots, and any further possible fire spread, assisted by the use of a thermal imaging camera, was required before confirming it was out at 11.32pm.”

“Once satisfied that this was the case and after isolating the utilities, the scene was made safe and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke.”
