on under-age gambling starts in Burnham-On-Sea area
clubs and bars in the Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge, Brean and Berrow
area are being inspected in a crackdown on under-age gambling.
District Council's Licensing Team and the Gambling Commission have
begun a series of checks to ensure that laws on the use of gambling
machines are being adhered.
Faun, spokeswoman for the council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "With
safeguarding of children in mind, along with the summer tourist
season, Sedgemoor District Councils Licensing Team have teamed
up with a colleague from the Gambling Commission to begin a programme
of visits to premises licensed for the retail sale and supply of
alcohol, such as pubs, clubs and bars, with a view to monitoring
the use of gaming machines."
officers are reminding all licence holders of their responsibility
for the safe and lawful use of machines within their businesses."
unannounced visits began in the Brean area last Thursday (21st June)
and are set to continue in coming days.
