Golf Club tournament raises £5,000 for regional charities
28th annual Sports Celebrity Am took place last week at Brean Golf
Club with 23 teams heading to the fairways.
event, hosted by Brean Leisure Park, boosted the Injured Jockeys
Fund and St Margaret's Hospice, with more than £5,000 raised
between the two charities over the day.
enjoying an excellent breakfast in the Tavern, the teams took to
the course which was prepared by Robin Williams and his team.
teams battled to accumulate the most stableford points and get their
hands on the Tom Childs Memorial Trophy.
the end of the day it was the team sponsored by Town & Country
Flooring which scooped the top prize after handing in a very impressive
score of 91 points.
Bristol Rovers footballer Tony Pounder was joined in the winning
quartet by Martyn Cahill, Andrew Stephens and George Fear as they
led the way by a single point.
up were the PWC sponsored team with 90 points made up of Matt Heal,
Chris Brady and Gavin Holland alongside Brean Captain Elect Trevor
place was claimed by Fire at Will led by Joe Lemon of Holiday Resort
Unity Caravan Sales joined by brother Will Lemon, Justin Phillips
and Phillip Strange.
final two prizes on offer went to local teams with Club Captain
Mike Carter steering his team consisting of Dan Broom, Ian Rogers
and Steve Hill to an 87 point score and fourth position.
Bros Builders took fifth with 85 points being scored by Wayne Barrett,
Phil Hodgson and the Jones brothers Eric and Dave.
Britton from BBC Radio Bristol and Patron of St Margaret's Hospice
was on hand to thank the players for raising the money and to hand
out the awards after another excellent meal following the round
laid on in the Tavern.
President of the Injured Jockeys Fund Jonathan Powell also took
to the microphone to extend thanks on behalf of the IJF where he
confirmed this is the longest running fundraising event for the
Charity and valuable to the support of injured Jockeys.
