A Burnham-On-Sea greengrocer has been forced to remove its traditional display of fruit and veg outside its shop due to thefts and anti-social behaviour.

Gardiner Whites in Burnham High Street has been displaying a colourful range of fresh produce since it opened last October.

But owners Richard and Jax Gardiner-White say “a small group of teenagers have caused a lot concern”, leading to the display being removed.

Richard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “On one occasion, a teenager took an orange from the display and, when we confronted him and asked him to pay, he threw it back at us and began mouthing off.”

“We have also seen other fruit stolen from the display, including lemons, when young people threw them over the roofs of the High Street shops.”

“They are so brazen and show no respect at all. We really didn’t expect this in a seaside town like Burnham where the vast majority of people have been so supportive of what we are doing.”

“Regrettably, we have taken the display away from outside the shop, but we hope to bring it back soon with secure containers and extra security cameras. We will be putting the CCTV footage of any culprits onto social media if needed.”
