Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Junior Civic Awards are set to be handed out to community-spirited youngsters for the first time this year.

Town councillors have this week approved plans for the new initiative, which will see members of the public invited to submit nominations to worthy local children aged between 5-16 years-old.

A special ceremony will be held at King Alfred School’s theatre in December when the awards will be presented to the winners.

A number of valuable prizes will be awarded to the winners and Burnham-On-Sea.com will be one of the sponsors of the evening.

The idea is being led by Cllr Nick Tolley, pictured, who said: “We have some amazing community-spirited young people in Burnham and Highbridge – and these awards will specifically shine a light on them.”

“Nominations could come from schools, parents, relatives or friends to highlight why the young person in question should be honoured.”

More details will follow on Burnham-On-Sea.com.
