Primary school visits help promote King Alfred School open evening

Highbridge's King Alfred School is throwing open its doors for the whole community to meet its inspiring students and staff this month.

The school is holding an open evening on Thursday 20th September with a chance to talk to students and staff, sample free food in the restaurant, and to take part in a treasure hunt with prizes for the children.

This week, students have been going back to their old primary schools to give out flyers promoting the event, including at Brent Knoll School, as pictured here, where King Alfred School Principal Nathan Jenkins also discussed the opportunities with them.

The school has become one of Somerset’s most improved and has a positive momentum with much-improved GCSE exam results and with a new Principal and a raft of good news behind it.

In recent months the school has has an encouraging Ofsted visit, various site improvements, and a £1.2 million cash boost from the Government.

The school formally becomes part of The Priory Learning Trust (TPLT) on 1st October after a year of being supported by the multi academy trust. TPLT has a strong track record of helping to improve schools.

New Principal Nathan Jenkins said: "We look forward to meeting parents, carers and grandparents to our Open Evening. We want this school’s journey to be a whole community moving forward together, including our wonderful feeder primary schools."

The King Alfred School Open Evening takes place on Thursday 20th September at 5pm until 7.30pm, with talks by the Principal at 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
