A Burnham-On-Sea line dancing group has bid farewell to its long-time leader who is stepping down after a ten year stint.

The Ritzi Glitzi Line Dancers, based at Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club, held a surprise farewell party for Margaret Newton.

“Everyone had so much time and love for Margaret – she has had so many challenges in the last few years but has always remained cheerful,” the group’s Bernadette Dumphy told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The Ritz Social Club regularly invited Margaret to perform line dancing demonstrations and she even performed on BBC1’s Street Auction programme in Burnham-On-Sea last year.”

“She’s also given demonstrations to the WI and many other groups. She held three evening social events throughout the year when large amounts of her time went into organising them.”

Margaret originally joined the line dancing group around 10 years ago and became its leader four years ago.

“Against adversity Margaret took over the group which was only one class per week, and she increased the numbers of members and the number of classes,” adds Bernadette.

“She loved dancing so much, spending her days off practising. She held five lessons per week, two advanced lessons, and two beginners lessons on a Monday and a Friday, and an intermediate class on Wednesdays.”

“Margaret is only leaving now to be closer to her family. It will never be the same without her and we cannot express how much she is loved.”
