Beach fishermen prompt call-out for Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards

-

Coastguards were called out on Saturday evening (April 7th) amid concerns for a group of people seen in mud on Burnham-On-Sea beach.

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were paged just after 6pm when several people were seen by the water’s edge near to the Lower Lighthouse.

“We sent the truck with five team members onboard to investigate further,” says a Coatguard spokesman.

“With binoculars and a good vantage point from the seafront one of the team carried out a visual sweep of the bay and could see that there was a group of fishermen.”

“The team members in the truck had a look round to ensure everyone was safe and, once confirmed, were stood down by HM Coastguard Operations Room in Milford Haven.”

The incident was a false alarm with good intent and Coastguards thanked the first informant for raising the alarm.

“Due to the distance and the fading light it was easy to see why it was reported, and, as we always say, it’s better to be safe than sorry and we are always happy to attend to investigate these things.”

“Never be afraid to report an incident by Dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguards.”
