Highbridge’s MP James Heappey is pushing forward the search for a new operator to run the town’s Post Office, following the current postmaster’s decision to sell the business.

The Post Office is currently working with the postmaster to help find a buyer but is also looking at other businesses in the town which may be able to operate the Post Office services.

Mr Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “The Post Office provides are vital service within Highbridge and so it is sad to see the service threatened because the current Postmaster does not wish to continue.”

“I know that Post Office Ltd have been looking at a number of alternative sites as well as working with the existing operator to see whether a buyer can be found for the current business.”

“Modern Post Office counters can go anywhere – I’ve seen them in pubs, cafes and supermarkets but could just as easily go into hardware shops, a bakery or even the local community centre.”

“I hope that somebody in the town will be keen to take this opportunity.”

Those interested in running Highbridge Post Office should contact Post Office Ltd directly or email Mr Heappey at james.heappey.mp@parliament.uk and he will put them in touch with the appropriate Post Office officials.
