Scarecrow festival fun set to continue across Brent Knoll today

-

Dozens of colourful scarecrows are on display in Brent Knoll this weekend during the village’s annual scarecrow festival.

More than 50 scarecrows are being shown alongside roads, gardens and paths across the village.

The festival – which is being held in aid of Girlguiding Brent Knoll – started on Saturday despite the wet weather and continues today with a theme of book and comic characters.

This year’s winners are: 1st – Gruffalo – The Baker Family; 2nd – The Wind in the Willows – The Steer/Snellgrove Family; and 3rd – Winnie The Pooh – Poplar Farm.

Highly Commended were Paddington Bear – The Field Family; Tractor Ted – The Luff Family; The Gingerbread Man – Donaldson Class, Brent Knoll School; Popeye – The Criddle Family; The Invisible Man – The Steer Family; Gone with the Wind – The Dimmock Family; and Room on the Broom – Christine Sandy.

“This is always a very creative event which involves residents and visitors alike, with dozens of scarecrows to locate,” said a spokeswoman.

A Scarecrow Trail sheet is available to buy from the Village stores and hall and costs £1. Completed Trail sheets will go into a prize draw for a cash prize.

All the scarecrows will be on display between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Within these hours, refreshments will be on sale at the Village Hall.
