Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge speedway fans attending tonight’s Somerset Rebels home meeting (Wednesday) are advised to bring their autograph books, as there will not be just one World champion in attendance but TWO!

With resident club number one Jason Doyle looking to lead the Rebels into action, his compatriot Mark Webber, the 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion and multiple F1 GP winner, will also be on hand at the Oaktree Arena undertaking promotional work for BT Sports.

Webber and the TV crew will be shadowing Doyley throughout the day and into the build-up for the Rebels SGB Premiership league fixture against near neighbours Poole.

The presence of Webber has left Oak Tree Arena owner Debbie Hancock, promoter of the ‘Cases’ Rebels feeling just a little star-struck.

She said: “When BT contacted me and asked if they could come along to do some filming and promotional work for the British GP I had no hesitation in agreeing, and when they told me that Mark Webber would be amongst the crew, I confess I was a little bit overcome with emotion.”

“I think Mark is a tremendous ambassador for motor racing and he is an absolute natural with his television work so to have him along and be part of the day here is fabulous.”

“As I understand it, Mark will not be here for the whole of the meeting but we are hoping that he will be available to have a chat with us ahead of the Poole match, which is the main focus of the night.”

“It promises to be a world class day at the Oak Tree” added Hancock, “and hopefully our fans will turn out to be part of it.”

The Pirates arrive finding themselves back on the bottom of the table, after King’s Lynn displaced them on Monday night, and the Dorset outfit go into this crucial league match without the latest of their signings, Nicolai Klindt, who is engaged in a Danish League fixture. But with ex-Rebels Brady Kurtz, Josh Grajczonek and Richie Worrall amongst their number there will be no lack of track knowledge for the visitors.

Somerset offer up a seasonal debut to Claus Vissing and club debutant Nico Covatti and are eager to maintain their unbeaten home record as they continue to push towards sealing their place in the league-title determining play-offs.
