New questions have been raised regarding safety at an accident blackspot in Burnham-On-Sea after this car ended up on its side in a ditch during Friday’s snowfall.

The driver of the Audi lost control as it negotiated the sharp bend in Stoddens Road near the BASC Ground entrance.

The driver was shaken by the accident but managed to escape without serious injuries, a local resident told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

He added: “Think is accident number 7 or 8 in recent years – and there’s still been no action from Sedgemoor District Council or the County Council.”

“Ages ago they were going to renew the crash barrier here, but we are still waiting.”

“It’s a good job this was a very slow motion skid or someone could have been killed.”

Police placed blue tape around the vehicle ahead of it being recovered.

In a separate accident, another car slid off the M5 between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Friday, caused by ice and snow. No-one was seriously hurt.

There have been many accidents on the same Stoddens Road bend over the years, and local residents have been campaigning for improved safety measures.

The last accident occurred last August when we reported a woman was rescued from an overturned car in Burnham-On-Sea’s Stoddens Road.
