The Burnham-On-Sea area has been warned to expect high winds overnight tonight (Thursday).

Gale-force winds are set to sweep across our area, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning from 6pm until 9am on Friday. Further stormy weather is also forecast over the weekend.

50mph winds and heavy rain will hit the area and The Met Office warns that there could be delays to road, rail and air transport and even short term loss of power.

“There is the potential for very strong winds on Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning,” said a spokesman.

“There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or through falling trees and branches. This could also bring the chance of injuries and danger to life.”

“There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.”
