A group of Burnham-On-Sea swimmers made a splash when they competed in the first regional tournament of the year.

Burnham-On-Sea’s Academy Swim Team kicked off the 2018 season by taking part in the prestigious Derek & Val Ross Memorial Trophy Gala at Horfield over the weekend.

“The swimmers had the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams and swimmers in the South West, including Severnside, Newport, Soundwell, City of Cardiff, Gloucester City, Severnside, Weston and Monnow,” said the Academy’s Sara Cox-Conklin.

“A number of podium places were achieved by the Burnham-On-Sea Academy Swim Team and our congratulations go to them all!”

Second places were won by Lola Hughes Girls 9 yr 50m Freestyle & 50 Fly; Zach Powell Boys 9 yr 50m Breaststroke; Calum Richards Boys Open 100 Breaststroke; and Girls 9 yr 4x50m Medley Relay: Macey Burge/Matilda Hicks/Lola Hughes/Melody Darlison.

Thurd placed positions were won by Matilda Hicks Girls 9 yr 50m Breaststroke; Fin Fooks Boys 9 yr 50m Butterfly; Zach Powell Boys 9 yr 50m Backstroke; Macy Noad Girls 11&U 100m Freestyle; Jacob Darlison Boys 13&U 100m Butterfly; Callum Richards Boys Open 200m I/M & 100 Fly; and the Boys 9 yr 4x50m Freestyle Relay Fin Fooks/Marcus Payne/Jay Duggan/Zach Powell.
