The owners of Burnham-On-Sea’s Swim and Sports Academy are this weekend celebrating ten years of successful business.

Mark and Sara Cox-Conklin, pictured, took over the former council-owned Swimming Pool in Berrow Road in 2008 and then re-opened it on July 21st that year.

Since then, with considerable personal investment they have completed major upgrades to the building and an extension of the facilties to include a modern health club with the latest equipment and a new secure roof.

The Academy is now visited by 200,000 people every year who enjoy swimming and 65 different fitness classes every week.

Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Back in 2008, people wanted to see investment in the pool to upgrade it into a modern building with new facilities and we hope we have delivered on that.”

“We thank all our regulars for the wonderful, warm support they have given us.”

“We couldn’t have done any of this without our wonderful team of staff and we thank them for giving our customers such a super warm welcome over the years.”

Sara added: “It has been a very successful, enjoyable decade. We have met some wonderful people, and we look forward to the next ten years.”

She added that one key highlight of the ten years was the Academy winning the title of the UK’s top ‘Swim School of the Year’ in 2012. “It was a very proud moment for us and it’s something that we continue to build on.”
