A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac’s stunning display of over 100,000 Christmas lights raised a huge final total of more than £10,000 for charity.

Crowds of visitors flocked to the Trinity Close display over the five weeks, and they dug deep for this year’s charities, raising £10,427 for BARB Search & Rescue, which operates Burnham’s rescue hovercrafts, and local cancer support charity PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust.

Resident Roger Flower told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted that such a stunning amount has been raised and thank everyone who came along and gave so generously towards the two charities.”

“We hope the display to bring a little extra joy over the festive season to the many visitors who called in over the five weeks.”

“The weather was against us on several nights, but we received lots of positive feedback and thank everyone for their warm support.”

A BARB spokesman said: “We are hugely grateful to the Trinity Close residents and visitors for their amazing support of BARB! As a small, independent charity that solely relies on local donations to carry out our life-saving work along the coastline, funding like this is greatly appreciated. BARB’s volunteers were called out over 45 times last year to a range of incidents, from missing people searches to beach users stuck in mud requiring our hovercrafts, and the funding enables us to carry out this work.”

A spokesperson for PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust also thanked visitors for the donations, adding that the funding will help provide cancer support to families in the local area.

The Trinity Close residents, pictured below, decorated their homes, gardens and walls with colourful twinkling lights for the five weeks. The display again attracted national and regional publicity, with national newspapers, radio and TV stations all featuring it.
