Burnham-On-Sea hovercraft flies mud walkers to safety at Weston

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft and two teams of Coastguards were called to Weston beach to help several people from the mudlats on Thursday afternoon (July 26th).

A concerned member of the public had alerted the Coastguard to two people wading through deep mud on Uphill beach on one of the hottest days of the year.

“The two women was struggling to move across the mudflats and there was extra danger from the incoming tide,” said a Coastguard spokesman.

BARB Search & Rescue’s hovercrafts were both called to the beach before its crews worked with Burnham and Weston Coastguards to bring the ladies back to the safety of the beach and give safety advice.

It came during a busy day for Burnham Coastguards who were called six times during the day.
