Large crowds headed to Burnham-On-Sea seafront on Saturday evening (June 2nd) to see 150 classic vehicles arrive for the 25th annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.
The popular event was the biggest yet with a wide range of vintage vehicles, from cars, lorries and bikes to military vehicles and emergency service cars, on show while raising charity funds.
The run started as normal in Glastonbury and the vehicles headed across the Somerset levels to Burnham’s Pier Street Car Park on the South Esplanade, where they were welcomed by spectators, as pictured here.
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Bill Hancock and Mayoress Frances Hancock awarded a trophy to the owner of their favourite vehicle and chose a 1954 Daimler Dauphin owned by Paul Chamberlain from East Huntspill.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Paul said the winning vehicle was orginally built as a Lanchester for the 1953 Motor Show but was never produced and was converted into a Daimler by the factory. “The vehicle is unique – the only one of its type in the world,” added Paul.
Cllr Hancock added: “We were impressed at the quality and variety of vehicles on show and it was great to see so many people out on such a super evening enjoying the display.”
