BBC Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton backs charity Legacy Day

-

Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea will welcome its long-standing patron and former Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton OBE to a special Legacy Day on Saturday 10th March.

The event, from 2pm to 5pm, is being supported and attended by Valerie Singleton, and will see supporters invited along to learn more about writing wills.

Secret World will be serving cream teas and other refreshments throughout the afternoon and there will also be opportunities for visitors to meet the resident wildlife and hear about the work the charity does.

Commenting ahead of the event, Valerie said: “As a long-standing patron, I’ve seen the life-saving work Secret World does at first hand. Last year’s Make a Will campaign was a great success and I’m sure this year’s Legacy Day and Make a Will Week will follow suit. I hope supporters will use their legacy to continue to support the work undertaken by Secret World for generations to come.”

During Make a Will Week (9th to 13th April), Wards Solicitors, WDS Associates Ltd and Harris & Harris are all donating their time for free to encourage more supporters to leave a donation to Secret World in their will.

Over half of the UK’s adult population does not have a will. Make a Will Week aims to increase awareness and enable supporters to prepare their will, in return for a donation. There is a recommended minimum donation of £95 for a single will or £165 for a pair of mirror wills which is substantially below the solicitors’ normal rate.

Samantha Hannay, Head of External Relations at Secret World, added: “Making a will, or even thinking about a will, can be scary. But after the success of last year’s Make a Will Week we decided to host a Legacy Day to increase awareness about the legacy people can leave so future generations can enjoy British wildlife for years to come. What better way to do this than over a cream tea?”

Supporters can register their interest for the Legacy Day on the website at www.secretworld.org/events and to make an appointment directly with one of the partner solicitors to draw up a will.
