Dramatic police accident leaves Marine Drive
closed for an hour

A
Burnham-On-Sea police officer was rushed to hospital on Saturday,
October 15th, after a dramatic accident in the town.
Marine
Drive was closed for almost an hour after the patrol car crashed
and flipped over near to the town's Roman Catholic Church.
Police
at the scene were not immediately commenting on the details of
the accident, saying only that their investigation had just begun.
However,
an eyewitness at the scene said he believed the patrol car "had
been following a person riding a bike with a crate of stolen drink
on the handlebars."
The
police officer involved is understood to have suffered only minor
injuries and shock.
The
accident caused traffic chaos in the back streets of Burnham as
motorists sought alternative routes around the area.
