BBC
Radio Bristol interview for Burnham-On-Sea RNLI helmsman
Burnham-On-Sea
RNLI helmsman Glen Cutter was interviewed by Alex Lewis on BBC Radio
Bristol's Morning Show this week and used the airtime to promote
key sea safety messages just before the busy Easter holiday period.
In the
20-minute interview he covered several issues, including:
The main contact number for 'sea-check' safety check, which is 0800
3280600
Always wear a suitable lifejacket or buoyancy aid.
Check engine and fuel
before proceeding to sea
Tell others where you
are going
Carry some means of calling
for help (Flares, VHF radio, etc
a mobile phone is not usually
enough)
Keep an eye on the weather
and tides.
Also
discussed were the topics of beach safety, the high rise and fall of
tides at Burnham-On-Sea and the danger from the exposed mud flats at
low water.
Anecdotes
from Glenns eleven year experience as a volunteer lifeboat crew,
both in the RNLI and previously for BARB (the Burnham Area Rescue Boat),
which now runs the town's rescue hovercraft were also covered.
