Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat called to help broken down speedboat
A
Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat was launched on Friday evening (August
1st) to help a speedboat that had broken down in Bridgwater Bay.
The
Staines Whitfield Atlantic 75 lifeboat was launched from Burnham
jetty at 9.53pm to help tow the 21ft stranded boat to safety.
The
speedboat had three children and two adults onboard and had developed
a technical fault near Combwich in the River Parrett.
"The
speedboat had suffered engine failure and was drifting with the
outgoing tide. The crew of Staines Whitfield dropped one adult
and one child off at Combwich, to enable transfer of the trailer
and towing vehicle to Burnham, and then transported the remaining
passengers and speedboat to the safety of Burnham beach,"
a Burnham lifeboat spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Burnham
Coastguards waited on Burnham beach to assist with the recovery
of the boat to its launch trailer. The lifeboat was recovered
and returned to the boathouse at 2255 hrs.
Burnham
Coastguard Officer Steve Bird added: "The speedboat crew
were properly equipped with flares, and had all necessary safety
equipment. They were able to call for assistance when it was required."
