RNLI
crews from Burnham-On-Sea join Coastguard search exercise

RNLI
crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Minehead carried out a joint exercise
with Coastguards on Sunday September 31st, and the conclusion
was a debrief by Coastguard Watch officer Vincent Irvin at Burnham
lifeboat station this week.
Two
floating dummy casualties were dropped into the water at different
positions, approximately one mile off Watchet, and the lifeboats
were launched from both stations to find the casualties.
The
Burnham crew launched located their target during the second leg
of a box search pattern, while Minehead picked up theirs almost
straight away.
During
the debriefing session, various scenarios were discussed, and
Vincent talked about Coastguard control operation procedures with
lifeboat crew members.
Lifeboat
Press Officer Mike Lang said: "We carry out regular exercises,
to ensure our crews are able to cope with any emergency. Swansea
Coastguard Control watch personnel are often dealing
with multiple incidents in the Bristol Channel, so it is essential
that we all work as parts of the same team."
Lifeboat
Operations Manager Martin Cox added: "We are presently looking
for more volunteers at Burnham Lifeboat Station, to enable us
to maintain our excellent cover of the area. Interested members
of the public should visit the Lifeboat Station during a Wednesday
evening training session."
