Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat station appeals for more volunteers
Burnham-On-Sea's
RNLI lifeboat station has this week issued an appeal for more
volunteers to come forward to join its shore crew.
After
training and settling-in, some volunteers will get the opportunity
to progress to tractor driving or become a member of the stations
inshore lifeboat crew.
Burnham
RNLI spokesman Mike Lang says: "Successful applicants need
not be experienced, because the RNLI will supply all training,
initially at station level, and both male and female volunteers
are equally suitable. However, the main requirements are a commitment
to regular training and the ability to work as part of a team."
"There
are traditionally maximum age limits for inshore lifeboat crew
of 45 years, and 60 years for shore crew members, although fitness
tests are being adopted throughout the service, and will to some
extent influence the accepted maximum ages."
Interested
applicants should make either themselves known at the lifeboat
station on a Wednesday evening training session, leave their details
at the RNLI shop in the station's compound, or call Mr Lang on
07889 815860.
