ESCAPE, the Emergency Services Community Awareness and Promotion Event, was held on Burnham seafront and attracted huge crowds. The RNLI's D-Class lifeboat was one of the leading attractions along with Burnham's hovercraft, the Coastguard's rescue vehicle, an Avon and Somerset Constabulary police car and oone of the county's ambulances. Victoria Scott (8) and brother Robert (5) are pictured (above) in one of the Burnham-On-Sea RNLI's tractors which is used to pull the lifeboats to the sea.
Meanwhile, nine year-old Daniel Badman (pictured left) jumped at the chance to get kitted up in an official RNLI crew member's waterproof overalls. It had special meaning as his father Pete (far right in the photo) is an RNLI crew member in Burnham. Daniel was shown how the D-Class lifeboat is operated by crew member Ian Tench and shore helper Chaze Melluish (also pictured). The day is expected to have boosted the RNLI's funds in Burnham, but was intended principally to be a promotional event. Martin Cox, Burnham Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: "It was a great family day out with a really good atmosphere. We had perfect weather and the children in particular enjoyed the day."
