Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat performs mid-channel helicopter exercise

Burnham-On-Sea's
lifeboat crew joined other crews from across the region in taking
part in a major helicopter training exercise in the middle of
the Bristol Channel on Saturday.
The
annual exercise involved seven lifeboats from Burnham, Weston,
Penarth and Barry alongside the RAF's rescue helicopter from Chivenor.
Burnham's
Ricky Holmes joined Jake Scott, training co-ordinator at Weston,
onboard the helicopter and was winched down onto several of the
lifeboats during the 90-minute exercise which tested the expertise
of the lifeboats' helmsmen.
Each
of the helmsmen had to carefully manoeuvre their lifeboat into
position to ensure the helicopter could accurately winch people
onboard from the craft above.
The
crews also practised transferring people between boats at speed.
Ricky
said afterwards: "It was a very good afternoon, which provided
us all with some very useful experience."
"The
winchman noted the excellent co-ordination between the different
crews and said the standard of the helmsmen had been very high."

following photos were taken by the crew onboard Burnham's lifeboat:
