Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat crews in RAF helicopter rescue exercise
Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat crews took part in a training session with an RAF helicopter
from Chivenor in Devon on Saturday (February 28th).
Both
Burnham lifeboats launched at 10am for the trip along the Bristol
Channel coast towards Minehead, where the exercise took place.
A
Minehead lifeboat crew was also involved in the hour-long session,
when the crews rehearsed transferring a casualty between lifeboats
and the RAF helicopter, as pictured here.
Burnham
RNLI spokesman Mike Lang told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This was
an important training exercise, both for the RNLI volunteers and
the RAF aircrew."
"A
helicopter casualty transfer at sea could mean the difference
between life or death for a seriously injured person."
It
comes a few days after a separate helicopter exercise was performed
on the mudflats besides Brean Down with Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards.
