lifeboat launched to help jet skier in difficulty
Burnham-On-Sea's
lifeboat crew was back in action for a second launch of the Bank
Holiday weekend when they were called to help a jet skier in difficulty
on Saturday morning (August 23rd).
Burnham
RNLI's Staines Whitfield was launched at 11.57am to assist the
disabled jet ski in the Bristol Channel, south
of Brean Down.
The
rider, Luke Newport from Bristol, had been jet skiing with his
friend Adam Brown, also from Bristol, when his engine refused
to restart.
Adam
beached the machine at Brean to borrow a towrope unsuccessfully
and the lifeboat was launched to prevent Luke drifting out into
mid-channel with the outgoing tide.
The
jet-ski was towed back to safety at Burnham where Luke was debriefed
by Burnham Coastguards. Our video below shows the lifeboat returning
to Burnham with the jet ski in tow.
