lifeboats education officer visits King Alfred School
Burnham-On-Sea
RNLI's visits and education officer Tony Deahl has been busy telling
pupils at King Alfred School in the town all about the life-saving
service and the need for continual fundraising.
Pupils
were shown video clips of lifeboat rescues, and told about the
specialised equipment and launching tractors in use at Burnham.
During
the year 7 assembly, selected pupils were used as models to demonstrate
how various items of RNLI kit are worn.
PE
Assistant Mr Paul Sheppards appearance on stage, dressed
in full RNLI inshore Lifeboat Kit, was a particularly memorable
moment when he demonstrated both a natural aptitude to modelling
and a keen sense of fun. Earlier in the week, head of year 9 Mrs
Clough had also donned the full regalia.
The
school will also be organising a non-uniform day on Friday 31st
March when funds will be raised for Burnham's lifeboats.
Tony
said: "The pupils were really interested to learn all about
the RNLI."
"We
are extremely grateful for the £1,200 that the 'wear what
you like day' is expected to raise."
Lifeboats
Press Officer Mike Lang added: "By organising school visits
we are able to remind pupils and teachers about the life-saving
work of the RNLI, and emphasise the importance of beach safety."

PE Assistant Mr Paul Sheppard, and RNLI crew member Tim Walters
