Fundraising climbs higher at Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station

A cheque for over £3,000 has been handed over to Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station following a successful fundraising climbing event.

A group of a dozen graduates from Magnox, the organisation responsible for the decommissioning of the Hinkley Point A nuclear reactor, held a climbing wall fundraising event in aid of the RNLI.

The team managed to climb a total of more than 7000 metres, raising a total of £3,371.82, which has been handed over to the RNLI during a conducted tour of Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station.

Toby Hopkins of Magnox South, says: "With the majority of Magnox sites being situated on the coast, supporting the RNLI was a fitting choice."

"The risks they take makes the sea a safer place, and the dedication of the crew members we met at Burnham showed how worthy a cause we chose."

Frances Warren, RNLI South West fundraising manager, said: "We are delighted that Magnox have chosen us for their charity challenge. The event was very well organised by the graduates and the amount raised was fantastic. This is enough to purchase protective safety kit for three volunteer crew members. We are very grateful."
