Lifeboat Operations Manager Martin Cox welcomed Elizabeth to the station this week, as pictured.
Although new to the station, Elizabeth is not new to the RNLI because her husband and business partner is also Consultant Occupational Physician for the RNLI based at Poole.
Elizabeth said: I was delighted to be offered the role of Lifeboat Medical Advisor for the Burnham-On-Sea Lifeboat Station, and will call into the station whenever I can.
She currently works as a full time partner in a small partnership of Occupational Health Physicians based in Barrington, Somerset.
Her partner Dr. David Anton is also her husband, and the Consultant Occupational Physician for the RNLI based at Poole. They set up their partnership nearly 12 years ago when they both left the Services. David was RAF and Elizabeth was RN. She spent sixteen years with the Royal Navy (1978-1994), mainly serving with the Fleet Air Arm but also working in Portsmouth and Plymouth Dockyards.
As part of her training with the Royal Navy, sea drills were essential, especially when one had to be winched several hundred feet down from a helicopter on to the rolling deck of a cargo vessel in the English Channel to attend to an injured crew member. RELATED LINKS:
