Burnham-On-Sea Lifeboat on duty at Minehead Charity Raft Race

The Burnham-On-Sea number one lifeboat, the Staines Whitfield, was launched at 11:30am on August 8th to assist with the provision of safety boat cover at the annnual Minehead Sea Raft Race.

With 41 rafts entered in the race, manned by approximately 300 people, safety for this annual event is paramount.

Cover was provided by various Bristol channel lifeboats and other rescue organisations, of which Burnham-On-sea was one. The Burnham number two D class lifeboat crew also stood by to provide emergency cover for the period of absence.

RNLI helm Scott Rundle said: "It was a routine trip, which provided useful crew training during the outward and return journeys."

The boat returned at around 15:00 hours. Sea conditions were calm, with light winds.

Our photo shows the lifeboat being launched in its usual efficient manner.
