Burnham
RNLI Open Days raise more than £160
More
than 200 people visited Burnham-On-Sea RNLI's station last weekend
when the doors were opened to the public for the first time as
part of a two-day promotional event.
The
newly formed Supporters' Group opened the station in Pier Street
on
Saturday
August 28 and Sunday August 29
- and took over £160 from the sale of lifeboat
souvenirs and donations.
Visitors
were able to look around the two lifeboats and hear more from
crew members about
the background to the life-saving service.
A
spokesperson for the Supporters' Group said: "It was a successful
weekend, despite the forecasted rain on Sunday. Visitors were
pleased to see us, and we raised a good amount of money towards
RNLI funds."
Children
also took part in lifeboat-themed competitions. Nine year-old
Sharna Burkett of Highbridge is pictured handing in her entry
for the colouring competition to one of the event organisers,
Catriona Crook, of Burnham-On-Sea RNLI Supporters' Group.
It
is hoped that the next event will take place during the October
half-term holiday.
There
may be other open days before then, as volunteers become available,
when the station will be open to the public on an 'ad hoc' basis.
More
details will be posted on this Web site nearer the time.
